After Dark
The Countdown
The date starts hours before you are in the same room.
45–60 minutes
Your date
Your date, your way
Build anticipation during the day through three mutually expected private messages, then begin the evening by revealing what each person hoped those messages would lead to.
Agree in advance that you are playing The Countdown so nobody receives intimate messages at an awkward time or on a shared device. Each person prepares three short non-graphic messages. ANTICIPATION says what they are looking forward to. THE REQUEST gives one small pre-date request such as wearing something the sender likes, choosing dessert, taking extra time getting ready, or bringing one idea for how the night should feel. THE TEASE is sent thirty to sixty minutes before you meet and hints at what the sender hopes happens later without spelling out the whole plan. When reunited in private, spend the first fifteen minutes avoiding work, chores, kids, and logistics; talk only about the messages and what they made you think about. Each person then says, ‘Here is what I was hoping would happen tonight.’ Daytime messaging is preparation; the active date window is the private meetup. Either partner can tone down or stop the game.
